‘The Walking Dead’ ranked the #1 show for a fourth consecutive year

The Walking Dead
has been ranked the number one U.S. show
among adults 18-49 for a fourth
year in a row.

The highly-
popular series
averaged 9.1 million viewers for season six, and its latest
finale, which aired
on April
3rd, 2016 brought in an amazing 18.4 million in audience totals across
the
United States.

“We know how
rare it is to have the number one show on
television for four years running
and to share a season six finale
on AMC with
more than 18 million fans, to say nothing of the passionate and
appreciated
conversations
that followed,” president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios
Charlie Collier
said. “So, as we close this
season, first and foremost, a
heartfelt ‘thank you’ is on all of our
minds…”

The ranking puts the

show over other top contenders, including Sunday Night Football, Empire, and
The
Big Bang
Theory.

The season finale of the zombie apocalypse series ended
to
mixed reviews last weekend after TV
show bosses introduced iconic comic book
villain Negan, (Jeffrey Dean
Morgan), and left fans questioning
which of their
favorite characters had met their fate at the hands of
Lucille (Negan’s barb-
wired bat).
Sadly, fans will have to wait to find out the answer to that boiling

question.

The show’s executive
producer responded to fans’ reaction to
the season finale, saying that the
zombie drama will be “pushing
some
boundaries” in terms of blood and gore when it returns for a seventh

run.

“Things are going
to start off very, very, very dark,” he said,
before adding: “But that won’t
be the whole season. It’s not
going to be
darkness upon darkness upon darkness.”

The Walking
Dead
will
return to AMC
for a seventh season in October.
