‘The Flash’ Recap ‘Trajectory’

The Flash Recap ‘Trajectory’

The Flash returned tonight with a new speedster, Trajectory. She is intent on causing chaos around the city and succeeds.

Team Flash are still trying to make Barry faster. This time, they have him jump across a ravine. He doesn’t make the jump, but Cisco had the drones ready and catches him in a giant net. Barry is convinced that he can’t get any faster, which leads to Caitlin revealing Velocity-9. Both Harry and Caitlin warn Barry of the repercussions of using the drug, but he doesn’t really care. He wants to use it because he believes it is the only way he will be able to match Zoom’s power. Luckily, he never does and instead destroys the last vial.

Team Flash is able to determine that the identity of the new speedster is Eliza Harmon, who works at Mercury Labs and had helped Caitlin come up with 3 of the 8 elements in Velocity 9. Caitlin tells the team that she didn’t tell Eliza what it was, but the scientist might have been able to construct her own version of the speed serum, which she did. Eliza comes into S.T.A.R. Labs, traps Barry in a cell, and demands that Caitlin and Harry make her more Velocity-9. They do so, but Eliza thinks that they may have added something to it, so she injects Jesse with some. Jesse starts to have a molecular collapse, but Team Flash is able to save her. Eliza gets away, however Caitlin and Harry planted a tracker in the serum.

Barry confronts Eliza after she collapses a bridge (Barry got everyone off in time) and tries to convince her that Velocity-9 is bad and poisoning her. She doesn’t believe him and injects herself with
more speed. When she starts running, Barry notices that her lightning trail is turning blue. As she runs, she is completely consumed by blue until she disintegrates. Oh boy.

Barry returns to S.T.A.R. Labs and tells them that her lightning was blue, just like Zoom. Team Flash determines that Zoom is sick, which is why he was trying to get Barry’s speed. And who else was sick? Jay. The team doesn’t want to believe it, but then Cisco says that he has been vibing and seeing Zoom when he was standing near Jay’s helmet. Barry, looking very angry, smashes the case containing Jay’s helmet and hands it to Cisco. Cisco vibes and sees Zoom remove his mask to reveal Jay’s face. He tells the team, and Barry runs off to the wilderness where he lets out a yell of anger and betrayal.

I was not expecting them to find out the truth so quickly, but they reacted exactly as I expected. They have been betrayed by someone that had become a friend, at least they think. I am still convinced that Zoom and Jay Garrick are different people. Team Flash believes that he was just using the same tactic as Reverse-Flash when he was in two places at once, but I don’t think so. Jay seemed genuine, and perhaps he was just working for Zoom at first to try and get a cure for the disease that is killing them both. The fact that he showed Caitlin Hunter Zolomon is important and might prove that he grew attached to Team Flash and wanted to help them without flat out telling them the truth because Zoom would have found out and killed him (oops).

This episode saw Iris and her new boss, Scott Evans, out on a “date” in order to stop him from running an anti- Flash story. She turns him down, but at the end of the episode said that she would consider going out with him again. It’s an interesting side story and we’ll have to see what happens in the future.

Jesse also found out this episode just what her father would do to protect her, and it did not go over well. She ends up leaving Central City to go out on her own and learn more about the world she must now call home. I am curious though if she will display any effects from being injected with Velocity-9. In the comics, she does eventually become a speedster, Jesse Quick, and maybe this is how she gets her start. For now, she has set out on her own and didn’t show any signs of super speed.

The title of the next episode is “Flash Back.”
