Gotham Character Spotlight: Oswald Cobblepot

From the moment
he waddled onto
our screen we
loved him. Gone was the pudgy cartoonish Penguin from Batman
stories past.
Fox’s Gotham took this
legendary character and polished
him up…slapped lipstick on the proverbial
pig and gave us Robin Lord
Taylor.
I, for one, could not be happier about this more dapper rendition of
Penguin.
Simply put RLT
owns this part. The hair, the walk…every last drop of it. With
his
portrayal of Penguin I actually like the
character more. He seems more
relatable with the less cartoonish
appearance.

The
awesome thing about this character
is that he is very
realistic. He wants what many people want, power. He also
gets ahead by doing
what
many people do, deceit and deception. It is highly entertaining to watch
his
antics because, again, like many
people, he fails but he gets back up and
tries again. My favorite scenes to
watch were the scenes with his
mother,
portrayed by legendary actress Carol Kane. Their interactions were
so realistic
and the love
between mother and son was tangible. When she met her demise I
actually felt
horrible for him because I was
so caught up in the scene! It
appears that we will get to meet Penguins
father in the back half of the
season.
Paul Reubens has been cast in that role and I am ridiculously
excited to see
these two
interact.

Once Season 2 returns later this month I expect
nothing but
greatness from him. He is still
mourning the loss of his mother and
has finished “rehabbing” at Nygma’s
place. He has quite a few scores to
settle
and I suspect he will do just that in classic Penguin style. Rumor
has it
(totally unconfirmed)
that Fish Mooney may be surfacing again. If that is the
case then their on
screen reunion will be one that
can’t be missed!
