‘The Flash’ Recap ‘Potential Energy’

The Flash Recap ‘Potential Energy’

The episode preview sure did lead us astray. Zoom taking Patty was all a dream, and apparently one that is recurring. Barry spends the episode trying to tell Patty that he is the Flash. Unfortunately, he never gets the chance.

Team Flash is trying to figure out what to do about Zoom. Harry is keeping his deal with the evil speedster a secret from the rest and is getting frustrated that he can’t figure out how to make Barry faster. Cisco has an alternate solution: Turtle. Turtle appears to have super speed, but instead he is making everyone else slower. Team Flash figures that if they can analyze his abilities, they might be able to use that technique to stop Zoom.

That is easier said than done because Barry is affected by Turtle’s abilities. He can still move, just really super slow. Barry takes Patty on a date to tell her the truth, but also to catch Turtle in the act of stealing. He doesn’t get a chance and abandons Patty to change into his suit. In that time, Patty stands up to Turtle and is almost killed. Flash manages to save her. Turtle later kidnaps Patty because he believes Flash cares of her. Barry summons enough speed to break through Turtle’s slow barrier and takes him out. Barry resolves to tell Patty, but she is leaving Central City to go to school and become a CSI. Goodbye, Batty. Now we’re going to have unhappy Barry back.

Meanwhile, with the rest of Team Flash, Caitlin runs a DNA test on Jay and finds out that he is sick. I think the damage from Zoom taking his abilities was worse than they imagined. Will Caitlin figure out a way to get his powers back and save him? She doesn’t want to lose someone else she cares about, so she might. We also get more from Wally as Joe tries to get to know the son he never knew he had, but Wally is being a jerk. He has been illegally racing cars to make money to pay for his mom’s hospital bills. Joe offers to help, but Wally turns him down and says he’s going back to Keystone City. Come on, Wally, give Joe a chance. He’s doing the best he can.

The episode ends with two cliffhanger moments. First, Harry goes to Turtle’s cell, takes a blood sample, and, I think, kills him. He is going to utilize the slowness to get his daughter back. Harry might give himself the power or create some sort of dart, but the only way Zoom won’t see it coming is if it comes from within Harry. The second moment is the return of Eobard Thawne. It looks like he may have time traveled through a breach and ends up on Earth-1. All I know is that this is not going to be good for Barry, who will already feel awful for what happened with Patty.

The next episode is titled “The Reverse-Flash Returns.”
