‘Supergirl’ Recap ‘Hostile Takeover’

Supergirl Recap ‘Hostile Takeover’

This episode picks up directly where the last one dropped off. Kara is face-to-face with her evil aunt. Astra reveals that she has created armor that resists the effects of Kryptonite, which means she no longer has any physical weaknesses. Kara doesn’t stand much of a chance as they fight, but she does manage to escape.

Meanwhile, at CatCo, Cat has been hacked. Kara overhears one of the board members saying that he orchestrated the hack to force Cat to step down. Kara, Winn, and James go to work trying to find a paper trail so they have legal proof that he did it. Along the way, Kara discovers that Cat has an illegitimate son. The scene in which Cat talks about him is really great, and she has really grown on me. She’s probably one of the most well-developed characters on the show.

Astra shows up downtown and calls out Supergirl. They fight, but this time, Kara manages to defeat her. They take Astra to the DEO and she sells Kara a sob story about how she only ever acted to protect Kara. Melissa Benoist’s acting is on point this week, especially when she confronts the hologram of her mother. It turns out that Astra lost the fight on purpose to draw their attention away from her husband, Non, who breaks into Lord Industries. A battle ensues and the episode ends right as Supergirl joins the fight.

The best part of the episode is Cat putting all the pieces together that Kara is Supergirl. I loved Cat’s reaction when she finally figured it all out. People might be afraid that she can’t keep a secret, but I disagree. I think that Cat has enough respect for Supergirl, and now Kara, to not spill the beans. The relationship between the two has grown so much the first half of the season and is the most well-written of the show (in my opinion). I think this will make Kara’s life a little bit easier since she won’t have to sneak around Cat. I do think that Cat might try and use some of Kara’s powers though. Super hearing does come in handy.

Another interesting scene happened between Winn and James. James told him to go for Kara and tell her how he feels. I am all for this, but I am also a little scared. Supergirl has been threatened by Maxwell Lord and he wants to figure out who she is by going after those that are close to her. If Winn and Kara do get together, he could be in danger. I think that the writers my be setting up to die. I hope not, but it’s a possibility.

Supergirl returns January 4, 2016 with “Blood Bonds.”
